The role

As an Intermediate Data Analyst focusing on BI Operations, you will be responsible for supporting the day to day operations of the Finance, BI team’s automated data and reporting solutions. This includes partnering closely with business stakeholders, internal team members, peers in other data groups, and the Team Lead, BI Operations. We are looking for someone who loves to understand and investigate data, highly-values excellent communication and is truly invested in efficiently delivering quality products.

A typical day

Specific accountabilities, by focus area, include:

Operational Queue:
o Being the face of BI Ops - Maintaining superb and timely communication with stakeholders in all interactions and with all inquiries
o Monitors and shares the maintenance of the Operational Queue with the Team Lead, BI Operations
o Ensures appropriate distribution (or availability) of operational reports to stakeholders with a thorough understanding of the underlying data
o A hands-on investigation into the root cause of reported issues in operational reports, including providing resolutions or recommended action and frequent and relevant updates to impacted groups
o Willing to wear the multiple hats of business analyst, data Investigator, tester and report developer

o Develops and maintains a thorough understanding and knowledge of Shaw’s data environments, schemas and related data flow processes
o Develops and maintains a thorough understanding and knowledge of Shaw’s product offerings, promotions and order entry and billing processes
o Shares maintenance of the Finance, BI Report Catalogue. Partnering with the Team Lead, BI Operations to ensure accuracy and integrity of referenced materials
o Conducts assessments of existing report catalogue based on changing data/processes and performs enhancements based on the results
o Shares in the ownership and execution of the Month End process, which occurs on the first of every month

o Builds and maintains strong business relationships and awareness of activities within the business that may impact operational reporting
o Builds and maintains strong relationships with support partner teams
o Provides hands-on training and overview of production reports to our business partners, as required
o Provides support to the Team Lead, BI Operations on BI impacting incidents
o Be proactive!
 Communicates any discovered operational report challenges, delivery delays, system performance issues and events that may impact reporting or our stakeholders
 Monitors and troubleshoots data processes that may impact the integrity of BI data environments
 Provides recommendations for enhancing the user experience or improving performance
o Being a communication chameleon. Seamlessly switches and conveys the message between technical resources and business-focused stakeholders.

Your skills/experience

• 2+ years of experience in working with stakeholders in an Operations or a data-focused Business Analyst role.
• 5+ years and a solid understanding of SQL (PLSQL, T-SQL) and other database constructs including stored procedures, functions, views, execution plans and source to target mappings.
• Ability to independently perform technical impact assessments for upcoming changes to SQL objects that may affect operationalized reporting solutions.
• 5+ years of experience in ETL technologies along with understanding and accessing underlying data sources, data structures and solution design including root cause analysis.
• 5+ years’ experience with reporting applications & BI tools, with data warehousing experience being critical.
• Experienced in MicroStrategy, Tableau, Alteryx and/or Snowflake.
• Able to excel in an environment that may have to change prioritization with the possibility of challenging deadlines, making the ability to multi-task and communicate a vital part of the role.
• Ability to assess and prioritize tasks, recognize the relevant options available, select an appropriate course of action and “get the job done” while maintaining quality.
• A team player who is dedicated to contributing to the success of the team and is customer-focused

Nice to Have:
o Background in the telecommunication industry.
o Previous experience in an operations-based role.

Other details

• Calgary – This role will be based in our Calgary, Shaw Court location
• Travel is not required
• Work may be required on the 1st of every calendar month as part of month-end closing activities.
