We’re making bold moves to connect Canadians and we’re always on the lookout for go-getters that are committed to disrupting the status quo. Does that sound like you? We’d love to meet you.

The role

With an ever-expanding data landscape, Data Strategy is seeking an experienced Enterprise Data Architect to complement our existing team. Reporting to the Director, Business Enablement & Enterprise Data, this role will be in close partnership with internal Data Strategy peers and will collaborate extensively with other business and technical teams across Shaw in both our Wireline and Wireless divisions.
As an Enterprise Data Architect, the successful candidate will serve as a mentor to our team of Solution Data Architects and other peers, providing guidance on technical solutions and on the roadmap for, and implementation of, our data architecture. This role will be called to solve unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business, requiring conceptual and innovative thinking to develop solutions. In addition to aiding in defining our enterprise data strategy, this is a hands-on role, ideal for a candidate who has both the interest in and ability to dive in, developing Proof-of-Concepts, reviewing queries and when needed, pushing up sleeves to do some development of their own. Being a champion of data governance, good data practices, data quality and data literacy is a must.

A typical day

This role is a “thinker-doer”, with each day bringing a diverse combination of:
• Collaborating with Architects and Subject Matter Experts enterprise-wide to understand systems, business processes and data flows. This includes day to day operations and projects
• Translating requirements into data models which align with our enterprise data strategy, architecture, and roadmap
• Documenting findings, including inputs to and outputs from our data domain
• Providing architecture governance on enterprise projects, from inception to go-live
• Partnering with Enterprise Data Architects to document data ecosystem best practices and mentor other technical resources to live into them
• Participating in the definition of the target enterprise data architecture, strategic direction and roadmap
• Advocating for data awareness with a security first mindset, identifying and articulating the data impacting considerations in projects and assessments
• Understanding our need to consider both ideal design and end-state usability. Ensure our data architecture is fit for purpose and built with the data community (various use cases) in mind
• Driving the investment in technologies, evaluating technology and vendor selection choices for platforms used throughout the data ecosystem
• Designing and implementing system, application, and integration architectures
You will be challenged to represent Data Strategy on the projects you’re assigned to, and your recommendations and summaries of the things that you learn will be trusted.
