The role

Data Strategy is growing at Shaw and we are looking for an experienced Sr. Data Analyst to join the BI & Data Operations team based out of the Calgary office. This role reports to the Team Lead, Principal BIOS Architect and will be in close partnership with internal Data Strategy peers and will also collaborate extensively with other technical departments across Shaw.
The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing business problems and opportunities to design and develop data solutions that transform raw data it into actionable information. The role requires a strong analyst/ developer background with advanced experience in SQL, data mapping and code optimization. A typical day

• Collect and assemble requirements from end users; translate requirements into technical solutions
• Design and develop data solutions that summarize and transform data from various data sources into understandable, actionable information
• Develop and improve Enterprise Data Warehouse structures and ETLs to improve efficiency, usability, consistency, reliability and relevance of data for reports
• Create mapping documents, deployment procedures, processes and standards, and related documentation for support materials
• Support and troubleshoot technical problems within the BI Environment
• Understand and remain current on Shaw product offerings, promotions, and associated order entry / order management procedures
• Continuously learn and adopt new technologies in the move to target architecture in the Cloud

Your skills/experience

• Degree in a field linked to data analysis, data engineering, business analytics, business intelligence, applied mathematics, computer science, IT, computer applications, engineering or related field is required
• 8+ years and a solid understanding of SQL, and other DB constructs including stored procedures, functions, views and execution plans
• Advanced knowledge on query optimization and best practices
• 8+ years, a solid understanding, and demonstrated ability to apply Data Warehouse and Data Modeling methodologies into practice. With a focus on the ability to understand the underlying data sources and translating that knowledge into mapping documents and requirements for ETL developers.
• ETL development experience (Informatica and IICS would be considered an asset, but not a requirement)
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze the data and find root cause on issues
• Demonstrated track record of delivering high quality solutions that are supportable and extensible
• Strong communication skills - ability to communicate with technical teams as well as business users
• Develop and use error logs to guarantee traceability
• Expert written and verbal communication skills, with experience in technical writing and data flow documentation
• Demonstrated ability to build strong, cooperative team and interdepartmental relationships
• Consistently able to work under pressure, multi-task and meet challenging deadlines, all while focusing on quality
• Team player with strong, proactive approaches that demonstrate continuous improvement
• A positive “can do” attitude that will enable you to deal with challenging situations with integrity

Experience in the following technologies would be considered an asset:
• Informatica Cloud (IICS)
• Qlik (Attunity) Replication
• Alteryx, Tableau and Power BI
• Snowflake, AWS, PostgreSQL
• Experience and Familiarity with Python data libraries
