The role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Network Architect I to join our Data Center Networks and Core Automation Team. The successful candidate will be accountable for the architecture, certification and introduction of services and technology solutions that allow our customers to interact with the world and each other. This position reports directly to the Manager, Data Center Networks and Core Automation.

A typical day

• Participate in technology research, including rapid proof of concept and New Product Introductions to support “best in class” data center solutions and services.
• Design advanced network architectures and automated testing to support solutions for various residential and business services including Internet, Voice and Video products.
• Test and Standardize new technologies to enhance residential and business customer services including design standards.
• Develop and document technical standards and practices for deployment of networking technologies for residential and business customers.
• Contribute to providing world class customer experience’s through service creation, product defect identification and coordination with internal stakeholders and external vendors on defect resolution.
• Project management of new technology deployments, migrations and drive the design process of integrating voice and/or data networks.
• Devise, implement, document and provide warranty support for new network architectures.
• Participate in RFP/RFI preparation, bid evaluation and the vendor selection process.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.

Your skills/experience

• 5 or more years of experience designing, certifying and implementing Customer networks with a Degree or Diploma in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science from a recognized University or relevant experience.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to concisely present to internal stakeholders.
• Detailed experience with multiple networking technologies (ie. Routing, Switching, Load Balancing) including rapid proof of concept to prove out key business case metrics.
•Demonstrated experience working with routing protocols such as BGP, IS-IS, OSPF.
•Understanding of current data center infrastructure technologies.
• Proven experience bringing leading edge/next generation technologies to market.
• Excellent background in overall end-to-end service architecture including providing KPI collection/monitoring/interpretation to trend service performance over time.
• Knowledge of Internet, Voice and Video service delivery technologies and protocols.
• Knowledge of Security, Authentication / Accounting systems (Firewalls, IPSec, Radius, TACACS+).,
• Experience with software development/automated testing an asset.
• Industry Certification (ie. CCNP, Networking+) an asset.
• Proven experience fostering collaborative working environments and mentoring.
• Ability to take leadership and ownership to drive project deliverables.
• A positive, “can-do” attitude and customer focused approach that will enable you to deal with challenging situations with integrity, empathy and sincerity.

• This position requires the successful completion of a criminal and credit background check
• The successful candidate will be hired and based at any major Shaw or Freedom Mobile location. Calgary is a preference.
