The role

Every day we enable our people to do their best work. We are seeking a talented Network Architect to join our Technology Strategy and Network team. The successful candidate will work with a team responsible for the design, automation, deployment, troubleshooting and ongoing support of Shaw’s IP Metro Network.

A typical day

This position requires a candidate with strong analytical skills and technology knowledge to help lead the architectural design for Shaw’s IP Metro Network, prepare detailed engineering documentation, implementation plans, and deliver automation and scripting solutions. Key responsibilities include:
• Participate in design and deployment of cost-effective network architectures for Shaw’s core networks carrying Business and Residential Internet, MPLS layer 2 internal and customer traffic, Telephony and Video.
• Prepare detailed engineering documentation (work orders, MOPs, BOMs, standards)
• Develop and deliver creative solutions that automate or optimize equipment turn-up, software upgrades, provisioning and troubleshooting
• Plan, coordinate, prioritize, deploy and manage projects
• Prepare solutions, specifications and cost estimates for Shaw
• Prepare and deliver training and knowledge transfers to other internal groups
• Assist in the development of network standards for the installation, testing, and operations of network equipment
• Monitor network utilization and plan network upgrades to accommodate for growth
• Participate in escalation and help desk activities for Tier III issues
• Provide technical support to the Network Operations Center, technicians and other staff during the installation, implementation, troubleshooting and ongoing support of Network facilities and services
• Assist with the evaluation and integration of new products, technologies and software updates into the existing network
• Participation in on-call rotation will be required

Your skills/experience

• Proven team player able to work in a complex and fast-paced business environment and must be capable of working with little or no direct supervision
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
10+ years hands-on experience leading the Network Infrastructure design and supporting deployment of business-critical applications at scale.
• Deep understanding of Networking best practices, project management and risk mitigation.
• Strong practical knowledge implementing dynamic routing protocols such as BGP, ISIS and OSPF.
• Strong practical knowledge implementing Spine-leaf architecture and EVPNs
• Familiarity with MPLS forwarding protocols such as RSVP, Segment Routing, Etc
• Experience with traffic and application monitoring software is an asset
• Experience with traffic capture tools such as Wireshark/TCPdump, etc during root cause analysis is desired
• Experience working with Agile development practices to develop quality code to solve automation problems in Python, PHP, or other software is an asset
• Experience with automation engines and configuration management systems such as Cisco NSO, Ansible, AWX/Tower, Chef, Puppet or Terraform is an asset
• Proficient with Visio, Microsoft Office, Windows and Linux
