The role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Governance Analyst reporting to the Team Lead, Reporting & Governance. The Data Governance Analyst focuses on the development and management of Data Governance tools and artifacts, and enables the accelerated adoption and execution of data governance best practices across teams in Operations.
The successful candidate will play a key role in achieving the Analytics & Insights team’s vision of creating a data literate and data-driven culture where employees proactively use data to drive and support business decisions. The Data Governance Analyst is a recognized data expert accountable for driving the design, awareness and adoption of data governance practices, tools and artifacts and fosters the development of a data culture where data owners, data stewards and data custodians understand and embrace their roles in ensuring that data is secure, reliable, trusted and fit for purpose.

A typical day

Develop and manage the Metrics Glossary:
• Facilitate the development of metric names, definitions, and business rules by engaging the appropriate data stakeholders, particularly data stewards, and gaining alignment across multiple stakeholder groups
• Identify and engage stakeholders; lead regular collaboration sessions
• Work with data stakeholders to ensure the correct application of data definitions across the organization
• Steward the governance processes around developing, approving, and maintaining terms in the Metrics Glossary
• Take ownership of the Operations Metrics Glossary

Support overall Data Governance initiatives within Operations:
• Support Team Lead, Reporting & Governance to develop a Data Governance roadmap to support Analytics & Insights’ strategic priorities
• Document and maintain Current-State of Data Governance by gathering and analyzing inputs from Analytics & Insights team and other stakeholders within Operations
• Stay current with industry trends and best practices and ensure knowledge-sharing occurs with the Analytics & Insights team
• Partner and build trusting productive relationships with Data teams across the enterprise
• Promote a data-driven culture through data literacy initiatives and communication
• Support Team Lead in developing/conducting workshops, as well as developing and implementing a communication plan
• Develop data governance standards; roll-out and report on adoption rate.

Your skills/experience

• A wide variety of degrees will be considered but a typical candidate may have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant domain such as Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, Accounting, or a related discipline
• 3-5 years of related experience
• Data Governance or Data Management accreditation is a plus (e.g., CDMP, DGSP, CIMP)
• Hands-on experience designing, developing, or implementing enterprise or department level Metrics Glossaries and Data Dictionaries
• Experience in facilitating process-discovery sessions or data-flow discovery sessions; development of process maps or data-flow maps is an asset
• Knowledge of Data Management, with a focus on Data Governance and Data Quality
• Enthusiastic and passionate evangelist of a data-centric culture, with a distinctive focus on empowering all data stakeholders, from stewards to users
• Excellent communication skills – experience with documenting data governance policies and standards, and ability to lead productive collaboration meetings
• Detail-oriented and thorough individual who is also pragmatic and practical
• Problem solver and knowledge seeker
• Strong relationship-builder with enablement and coaching skills
• Flexible, creative, proactive, driven, productive and able to work under pressure
• A fast learner, comfortable with working through ambiguity

• This position requires the successful completion of a criminal background check
• This role is not location-specific
• Applicants will be hired in any Shaw location and will not be required to relocate for this role
• This role may require approximately 10% travel to multiple Shaw locations (post-pandemic)
