The role

We have an exciting opportunity for an IP Planner to join our Access team. This position is responsible for understanding a large Ethernet and IP network consisting of routers and switches from Cisco and Nokia being the most widely deployed technology and by creating innovative solutions to address optimization and consolidation network opportunities.
Applicants must have at least 2 years of working experience with Nokia and/or Cisco routing equipment and be knowledgeable on common Ethernet and IP protocols to include VPNs, VPRN, VPLS, MPLS and Spanning Tree. Candidate must also be an effective communicator working closely with Network Engineering, Tire-2 support, field operations and network deployment team. Please note this role will be sporting the Freedom Mobile portfolio.

A typical day

• Provide design & E2E connectivity IP plan for 3GPP, LTE & upcoming 5G network.
• Analyze existing extensive IP network, find optimization opportunities and develop IP plans for traffic migration to fiber based MPLS backbone.
• Prepare detailed IP Engineering design & configurations scripts for install and commission of Cisco/Nokia Carrier grade routers.
• Analyze existing network architecture and make recommendations for improved L2, L3 VPNs, VPRN VPLS, e-pipe, OSPF, IS-IS, SR-MPLS & BGP routing technologies.
• Maintaining private and public IP address for the network elements and develop expansion of IP based infrastructure in telecom network environment.
• Create short- and medium-term proactive capacity plans for development of IP & Ethernet network infrastructure.
• Design, engineer and recommend hardware solution to support growth and capacity augment.
• Work as a part of a team as well as be able to perform as an individual with minimal supervision.

Your skills/experience

• Knowledge of the following Transmission and TCP/IP standard telecommunication practices and technologies is must:
o Ethernet Switching
o IP Routing
o MPLS
• Knowledge of 3GPP (IMS/LTE/UMTS/HSPA) wireless standards, QoS, including end-to-end signaling and traffic flows and interworking with RF
• Distinguished knowledge of IP design including TCP/IP, VPN concepts in IP/MPLS multi-vendor environment, Nokia and Cisco routing/switches, network management
• Minimum a bachelor’s degree in Computer Networking / Engineering
• Preferred Certification –CCNA & CCNP (NRS-1, NRS-2 will be considered as added qualification)
• Confident with logical diagram, presentation and communication skills

• This position requires the successful completion of a criminal and credit background check
• The successful candidate will be hired and based at our Freedom Mobile location in Toronto, ON.
