The role

Freedom Mobile has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Accountant to join our team. The Intermediate Accountant is responsible for providing support in the implementation of the company’s policy and conduct of work related to the Capital Expenditure (Capex) reporting in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) to ensure that the reporting, recording, and analyzing of all Property, Plant and Equipment (PPE) and Intangible Assets (IA) transactions are completed accurately and timely. Please note this role will be supporting the Freedom Mobile portfolio.

A typical day

• Review appropriate classification of capital expenditures (Capex) and reconcile with GL
• Analyze costs allocations and book entries as required; work with Operating departments to track and reconcile PPE inventory movements
• Set-up new projects to track capital costs in accordance with the company’s business requirements
• Involve in various processes including capitalization, asset retirements/disposals, and assessment of useful life
• Validate lease details and update amortization schedules to ensure appropriate accounting under IFRS 16
• Prepare journal entries, schedules, reconciliations, reporting and analysis
• Look for opportunities to continuously improve processes and efficiencies
• Complete special projects, ad-hoc requests and various other duties as requested

Your skills/experience

• 3-5 years relevant work experience
• Post-secondary degree in Accounting with or actively working towards the CPA designation
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, simple macros, and ability to analyze large volumes of data)
• Detail oriented with high standards of excellence and an enthusiastic self-starter with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
• Thrives in a collaborative team focused environment, adaptive and enthusiastic about change and continuous improvement

Nice to have:
• Knowledge and understanding of IAS 16, IAS 38 and IFRS 16 is an asset
• Functional knowledge of Oracle ERP is an asset

• This position requires the successful completion of a criminal and credit background check
• The successful candidate will be based and hired at our Freedom location in Toronto
