The role

The Business Technology team in Calgary is currently seeking a Senior Network Architect I to join their team. This position reports directly into the Manager, Business Technology. The team is responsible for the development of products and solutions for Shaw Business based on Meraki equipment.

A typical day

• Lead for the development of Shaw Business managed services targeting SOHO/SMB and Enterprise businesses.
• Interface with sponsors and stakeholders to understand what they desire from the product or solution.
• Develop the functional and non-functional requirements based on the sponsor/stakeholder business requirements.
• Design a high-level architecture that meets the sponsors’ vision and satisfies the functional and non-functional requirements.
• Create use cases against the high-level architecture that exercise the functional and non-functional requirements as well as the activities that are perceived to be important to the system.
• Maintain architectural documents and diagrams and ensure that changing technical elements are captured and made available in a timely manner.
• Produce early iterations of user guides targeted to product and marketing teams to assist in their understanding of how the product functions and should be used.
• Provide training materials and training in support of operational handoff.
• Consultation with clients including external organizations.
• Provide guidance and direction to vendors to resolve issues and to influence product roadmaps.
• Produce and deliver technical service/solution documents, diagrams and presentations.
• Perform technical research on areas outside of SMEs domain or within a subsection of their domain (i.e. become the SME for specific subjects).
• Problem analysis/decomposition.
• Develop test plans to perform testing and creation of specialized proof of concept or prototype environments.

Your skills/experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
• 8 years of working experience in RF network design with strong experience with RF test equipment
• Experience with wireless communication standards such as 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with an in-depth knowledge of Wi-Fi standards such as 802.11, WPA2, Passpoint
• 8 years of related experience in designing, implementing, and supporting Enterprise networks
• Strong experience with networking standards such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, QoS, IPv6, Radius, IPSec
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Experience driving discussions with internal and external customers regarding trade-offs, best practices, project management and risk mitigation
• Experience with /Meraki APs, Security Appliances and Switches configuration and troubleshooting would be an asset
• Experience with database and data visualization tools such as Splunk, Tableau, MySQL would be an asset
