The role

We have an exciting opportunity for an exciting 1 year temporary contract! Are you a HR professional who is looking to be part of crafting and implementing outstanding HR practices. As an Employee Relations Advisor, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our Business Leaders to provide advice in the areas of employee relations, specifically performance management, terminations and investigations. This position will support leaders at all levels of the organization and strong interpersonal skills are required. Please note that this role will report into the Manager, Employee Relations and will be based in Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary or Vancouver.

A typical day

• Provide mentoring, feedback, support and provide guidance to leaders on performance management, discipline, human rights matters, involuntary terminations, risk assessment and execution of different types of terminations.
• Lead investigations handling employee related complaints
• Case management and reporting of employee relations inquires and cases, to identify trends and themes.
• Focusing on identifying, correcting performance behaviors to nurture consistency that delivers winning results and strong case management.
• Advising on complex performance and employment situations while navigating employment and legislative requirements.
• Disability case management support: in partnership with third party case managers and Ability Connect Advisors on employee return to work planning, substance abuse case management, workplace referrals and permanent accommodations.
• Deliver and/or coordinate leadership efficiency workshops related to performance management, discipline, terminations and human rights matters
• Ensure the execution of standard methodologies and implementation of employment legal trends as shared from the ER/LR team.

Your skills/experience

• Degree/diploma in Human Resources
• 3-5 years related work experience in the field of Human Resources with emphasis on Labour/Employee Relations
• Excellent knowledge of federal employment legislation and policies
• Ability to establish relationships, inspire change, and develop communication strategies for those changes to elevate levels of performance and drive efficiencies
• Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and changing priorities successfully and efficiently with minimal direction
• Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast paced constantly evolving environment
• Strong initiative and action orientation with a sense of urgency to get things completed
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
• A positive, “can-do” demeanor with customer focused approach which will allow you to deal with complicated situations with integrity, compassion and sincerity
