Career Opportunity: Reporter

Global BC, a division of Shaw Media is looking for a Permanent Full-time Community Reporter, located in Burnaby, British Columbia, to be a part of BC's #1 news team. This position will report to the Global BC News Director.

The successful candidate will have experience gathering, writing and producing news content in the field. This position will involve a variety of shifts, and may include early mornings, evenings and regular weekends.

Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:
• Write, produce and deliver daily news content with a focus on community issues and events;
• Present compelling stories using visual elements;
• Report live on location with unscripted material;
• Research and develop original, creative story ideas;
• Present news stories with credibility and clarity;
• Meet tight deadlines throughout the day;
• Take part in regular editorial and planning meetings;
• Participate in Global BC promotional activities as required;
• Other duties as required.

Required Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
• Post secondary diploma, certificate or equivalent, in a broadcasting related field;
• At least 3 years' experience reporting/producing in a local newsroom in a medium to large market;
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written;
• Proven ability to research, write and report under tight deadlines;
• Strong on-air presentation skills, with an emphasis on live remote abilities and unscripted material;
• Ability to shoot video and edit would be an asset;
• Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and new online skills in a multi-faceted digital news operation;
• Should be familiar with current state of online news reporting and publishing;
• Familiarity and ease in using Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media;
• Must have excellent people skills with the ability to work independently, effectively and cooperatively in a team environment.

This is a group 4 position under the current collective agreement.
