Career Opportunity: Writer/Producer

Shaw Media's News department in Saskatoon is currently seeking a Writer/Producer (Morning Show) to join their team. This position is part of the Global News team which produces local newscasts 7-days a week. The successful candidate will work primarily on Global Saskatoon's Morning Show.This position reports directly into the Station Manager/News Director.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of how major news organizations are employing a wide range of digital platforms and format and will have an ability to create a wide range of news and current affairs content for a multi-faceted digital news operation. The successful candidate should also be able to write/produce web, text and social-media versions of news stories while handling the demands and pressure of multiple, daily online and broadcast deadlines is important.

Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:
- Produce and write for the Global Saskatoon Morning show with the highest degree of competence, clarity, and accuracy;
- Produce, write and post content for online including social media;
- Work with our crews in the field to ensure the best possible newscast gets to air;
- Work closely with our production crew to make sure the Morning news goes to air clean with the best possible content;
- Make quick decisions when it comes to news judgment;
- Keep current with local / national news and provide leadership when deciding how to cover these events in a morning newscast;
- Perform other duties as required.

Required Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

- Diploma in broadcast television in addition to two years experience in a related field;
- Strong writing and organizational skills and also be able to work well under pressure;
- Be a proven leader that can work cooperatively with others in a teamwork setting;
- Positive attitude;
- Must possess a valid driver¡¦s license and a clear driving record;
- Working knowledge of new media tools and technologies (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc), and related applications;
- Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows as well as show a willingness to learn new online skills in a multi-faceted digital news operation;
- Familiarity with current state of online news reporting and where it¡¦s headed;
- Experience in updating online and broadcast content with a content management system.
