Career Opportunity: Announcer / Producer

Reporting to the Global Okanagan News Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for writing, producing and delivering content on Global Okanagan.

This position will involve a regular weekend shift, and may include early mornings, evenings and statutory holidays.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Anchor/Producer, the following is an outline of some but not all of the primary functions and responsibilities for this position:

• Anchor and co-produce the 11:00 PM newscast 3 nights a week;
• Anchor various other shows, as required;
• General assignment reporting and/or ENG camera operation
• Monitor all news sources, including feeds, wires, and social media;
• Communicate breaking or changing news situations with online and other show producers and anchors;
• This position will contribute daily content for the Global Okanagan website.


QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
• Degree or diploma in Broadcast Journalism from a recognized institution;
• At least 3 years’ experience as news anchor and/or reporter ;
• Demonstrated interest in news, breaking news and developing stories;
• Proven ability to write accurate, concise, creative news copy for broadcast and online;
• Willingness and ability to use digital technology and social media to generate content and develop audience interaction;
• Should be familiar with current state of online news reporting and publishing;
• Familiarity and ease in using Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media;
• Must have excellent people skills with the ability to work independently, effectively, and cooperatively in a team environment
• Proficiency with ENG camera functions and online editing a definite asset.

Hourly wage falls within the Group 5 category of our collective agreement.
